Porcine Research Institute (Cuba)
The Cuban pork industry’s Instituto de Investigaciones Porcinas (IIP) is part of the Agricultural Ministry and is composed of researchers, specialists and technicians with more than 30 years of experience in the domain.
One of the IIP’s main priorities is the disposal of porcine organic waste. In fact, the environmental arm of the IIP is concentrating solely on bio-digestion systems that recycle the waste and produce two important secondary resources: organic fertiliser for agricultural production and biogas energy. The IIP is Alternatives’ partner in the project “Porcine remnants recycling: increasing the quality of life in a viable rural Cuba,” financed by Quebec’s Ministère des Relations Internationales.
