Malian partner: Clubs Kayira de l'Association des Radios libres Kayira

The free radios Network is an organization that brings together 9 community radios (one in Bamako and 8 in rural areas). Those community radios have been compounded with the Kayira Clubs which are composed with women associations, associations of vulnerable persons or village groups.

Objectives of the internship: 

  1.  Enable Quebecois youth to live a significant experience of international solidarity by being in contact with the Malian culture
  2. Acquire work experience in urban agriculture that has concrete effects on the interns’ personal and professional development
  3. Promote urban agriculture and environmental practices in Montreal and Bamako
  4. Support a concrete community experience aimed at increased autonomy
  5. Share Alternatives' urban agriculture experience and knowledge, in particular in terms of horticulture and permaculture
  6. Facilitate the integration of interns to an international cooperation organization. 

Activities :

  1. Participate and be introduced to different urban agriculture projects run in Bamako
  2. Coordinate the creation of gardens with two women's associations in collaboration with our malian partner
  3. Create a series of workshops on the following topics : ecological water management, development of a growing productive/agricultural space, horticulture techniques, recycling of waste materials, sustainability or urban agriculture and relation with public health
  4. Participate in the creation of an urban agriculture guide
  5. Participate in urban farming work with the malian community

Number of participants: 6 interns and one group leader
