EXPOSITION: Recovering A Collective Memory : CHILI 1973-2013

Monday, September 9, 2013 - 10:00 - Saturday, September 14, 2013 - 20:00

On the 40th anniversary of the ousting of President Salvador Allende Gossens and his government of populist unity on September 11th 1973, the Chilian Committee for Human Rights (Comité chilien pour les droits humains) will organize an exposition titled "Recovering A Collective Memory : CHILI 1973-1990". The exposition will combine archival documents with artwork that portrays the political, social and economic aspects of 17 years of dictatorship (1973-1990) and its nefarious consequences, which remain present even to this day.

The exposition will take place from September 9th to 14th at Alternatives, 3720 Avenue du Parc (cross street Avenue des Pins), 2nd floor (Place de la Révolution)
From 10h to 20h

The objectives we hope to accomplish are to promote and communicate our history to younger generations and to Québécois society as a whole. In this manner the exposition aims to:

• Inform, depict, express and denounce, by various means, the 17 years of dictatorship
• Recover and stimulate the collective memory of Chili's history
• Share this history with the numerous cultural communities of Montreal
• Link different artistic "families" in the same space.

The Chilian Committee for Human Rights of Montréal, is a not-for-profit organization that works for respect, protection and promotion of human rights in Chili. It demands justice and denounces the impunity of crimes committed by the military dictatorship between 1973 and 1990.
