As part of International Development Week, Alternatives organized a serie of free activities at the Centre Strathearn (3680 Jeanne-Mance) which treated of various international development issues.

Justice for Peace in Haiti: photography exhibition showing the main events that marked the last two years of repression in Haiti.

Tuesday, February 8th, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

-The impact of the peace for the Palestinians: conference with Pierre Beaudet back from Palestine.

-Health in Nicaragua from 1990 until today: conference with Suzanne Deblois, who spent three years in Nicaragua as a doctor and Cooperating SUCO.

Wednesday, February 9th, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

-Evening on Mexico: discussion with Mario Rojas, doctor, former deputy of the PRD in the State of Morelos and presentation of the film Contra Corriente (1991, 55 min), a reflection on human rights violations in Mexico.

Thursday, February 10th, 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

-Movies on Guatemala: Quand le peuple dirige (1993, 30 min), the story of the first group of Guatemalan refugees in Mexico to return home in January 1993 and Struggling for our Lives (1991, 30 min), which relates the life of communities in resistance in the highlands of Quiche in Guatemala.

-Solidarity with native people: conference on the indigenous movement in Mexico and the events surrounding the Chiapas uprising with Pierre Beaucage, anthropologist freshly returned from Mexico, and presentation of the film Kanehsatake 200 ans de résistance of Alanis Obomsawin about the Oka crisis (1992 , 119 min).

Friday, February 11th, 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

-South Africa: presentation of Hold Up the Sun, The Struggle to End Apartheid (1993, 52 min), a film about South Africa from 1983 to 1990.

-Evening of Solidarity with community radio in South Africa: with the Irish band Swerving Buffoon, dance and food.
