Picnic Protest

Wednesday, October 9, 2013 - 11:00 - 13:00

To the Enbridge Pipeline forums

Call to mobilize against the Enbridge inversion plan on October 9th in Montréal!

Alternatives would like to invite its members and sympathizers to participate in a picnic protest against the environmental and democratic failings of the National Energy Board's forums on the Enbridge 9B pipeline reversal. The picnic will take place Wednesday, October 9th, 2013 from 11h00 to 13h30 in Montréal.

This creative and decentralized picnic was organized by Climate Justice Montréal and the Pipeline Vigilance Committee (Comité Vigilance Oléoduc, COVO), and is supported by Alternatives, Greenpeace Canada, the Council of Canadians, Idle No More Qc et L'Association québécoise de lutte contre la pollution atmosphérique (AQLPA).

Following the Harper government's Omnibus laws, the National Energy Board (NEB) can now refuse to hear the testimony of those who are not "directly affected" by the project. The NEB is an authority theoretically charged with ensuring that proposed energy plans respect the environment, but greenhouse gas emissions do not meet their definition of a threat to the enviornment. The NEB has no legitimacy in our democracy and its environmental mandate has a hole in it the size of Greenland!
