The Institute Florestan Fernandes (IFF) was established in 1999. Florestan Fernandes was a Brazilian sociologist who has had a long struggle against injustice and inequality in his country. With trade unionists, social leaders and intellectuals, he is the source of the Institute that now bears his name. The objective was to provide a more committed to political action and grassroots groups. From the outset, the IFF had as main objective the defense of citizenship and human development from the perspective of popular training for sustainable and inclusive society. It conducts its five lines of action:

  • Training in citizenship;
  • Social solidarity economy and sustainable local development;
  • Public policy and social control;
  • Organization and institutional strengthening communication;
  • Popular culture.

Thse actions take place in the urban communities of the periphery of the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza and in twelve municipalities in the region Sertão Central, which is the rural area of ​​the State of Ceará.
