DRC: Emergency, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program in South Kivu (2001-2002)

Context :

The South Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is an area where inter-ethnic tensions have always been high. Refugees from Rwanda and Burundi, local and foreign militias, as well as several DRC ethnic groups make up the area’s population.

Cuba: Training Aid Project for Union Delegates

In 1997, Alternatives took part in the computer and audio related equipment supply of the Central Union Workers of Cuba (CUWC), in order to improve its union delegate’s education and training program.

After the International Conference of solidarity with Cuba was held in Montreal on March 15 and 16 1996, the CUWC had requested a support from its training program. The program, which is particularly elaborated, has different components, such as communication, trade-union leadership, labor law, women rights, economy etc…

Angola: Humanitarian Aid

During war-time, the economic activities of the city of Malange were paralysed, consequently causing the deterioration of living standards. The population had found itself in a situation of dependency regarding UN and NGOs emergency aid. Faced with this situation, Alternatives, in partnership with ADRA (an angolian partner), set up a joint project with two components: (1) the humanitarian aid aiming the displaced population that is still in Malange; (2) support the return and the reintegration of the communities in their area of origin, in that case, the commune of Lombé.

Alternatives Supports New African Communications Advocacy Network

The GOREe-TIC network officially got underway on Friday June 20, after the last day of a workshop on development policies for information and communication technology (TIC) at the Goree Institute near the Senegalese capital. This network will coordinate research projects and advocacy aimed at promoting telecommunications development in French-speaking Africa.
