Project Officer in the Sri Lanka Climate Change Risk Development Program with the National Fisheries Solidarity Movement (NAFSO)

Internship Opportunity

Location: Negombo, Sri Lanka

Host organisation: National Fisheries Solidarity Movement (NAFSO)

NAFSO works for a just and prosperous society, where resources are equally distributed, and peace, justice and human rights prevail for all, regardless of race, religion or gender.

Required skills: The candidate must have a technical diploma or university degree in a field related to journalism, media, communication, ICT or any other relevant training. He or she must speak English and have good writing skills.

Mandate:

Collaborate to develop a technological platform to map the evolution of climate change and risks posed for the Sri Lankan coastline (year 1):

  • Participate in the development of the logic model and the performance measurement framework (PMF).
  • Evaluate the needs related to the creation of the technology platform.
  • Meet with other agencies, including multilateral agencies, working to mitigate the impact of climate change on Sri Lanka's coastline.
  • Estimate the costs of creating the platform and the resources needed.
  • Make a work plan for the creation of the platform.
  • Work in conjunction with NAFSO to create the platform.
  • Promote the integration of the platform into the partner's other web tools.
  • Assess whether the first steps meet the needs defined by the partner.
  • Document the work.

Other prerequisites: All trainees must complete the training program before their stay abroad. Alternatives will cover the travel and accommodation costs of interns living outside of the Montreal area.

Length of stay abroad: 6 months

Pre-departure training: July 2019

Expected date of departure: August 2019

 

To be eligible for the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), the candidate must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • Have a post-secondary diploma and have obtained a degree or diploma from a university, college, post-secondary technology school, post-secondary institute or CEGEP (general education college and professional in Quebec);
  • Be between the ages of 19 to 30 when the final selection is made (when the contracts between the trainee and Alternatives are signed);
  • Have never participated in the IYIP.
