Welcome Hector de la Cueva<\/b><\/h5>\n

In 2001, Alternatives was very present in the campaign for the Americas at a time when the neoliberal powers wanted to impose a leaden blanket on 500 million Latin Americans. With the Quebec unions, we organized the great Quebec Network on Continental Integration (RQIC), coordinated by our comrade Marcela, which brought together more than 60,000 people in Quebec City (April 2001). South of the Rio Grande, we helped coalitions in Mexico, Brazil, and Chile to organize the struggle that would lead, a few years later, to the rejection of the neoliberal project and the election of progressive governments.<\/p>\n

Today, the stakes remain high. The return of the right-wing in the shadow of American destabilization maneuvers is confronted by movements that say Basta and develop, as we see in Chile, powerful coalitions. For our general assembly on February 26, we will be lucky enough to have with us Hector de la Cueva who is coordinating the next World Social Forum from Mexico City. With him, we have agreed to work hard to ensure the success of this Forum, in phase with Quebec unions and popular groups that intend to participate.<\/p>\n

A virtual round table<\/b><\/h5>\n

The announcement that the next World Social Forum will be held from May 1 to 6 in Mexico City has reopened the discussion on the future of alter-globalization movements. Alternatives wants to take the opportunity of its general assembly on February 26 to discuss this question with guests at the heart of these issues. In the form of a round table, we will be able to better define the challenges facing the alter-globalization movement in 2022, at a time when popular movements all over the world are persisting and signing against austerity.<\/p>\n

The World Social Forum is one of the important moments for the revival of resistance and the networking of movements. And it is in this perspective that we commit ourselves to participate in this meeting. Among those who will participate are:<\/p>\n
