The objective of a “legal identity for all” is part of the UN’s sustainable development objectives for 2030. Why is such an objective necessary nowadays?

The World Bank states that at least one billion people cannot obtain a birth certificate, often because the states concerned do not care about issuing them. Being undocumented means being excluded from the modern economy – or working in the shadows and risking exploitation.

There are several challenges in obtaining our personal data and identity, often managed by the state. This article presents the risks of digitizing our identity and promoting e-governance.
