In recent years, many regions around the world have seen a sharp rise in far-right ideology and fascism. It was against this backdrop that an initiative was launched in Montreal to create a global platform for strategic resistance against fascism.

It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of our comrade and friend Ahmad Jaradat on Sunday, June 7. Connie Hackbarth pays tribute to him in this article. She was Executive Director of the Alternative Information Centre (AIC) in Jerusalem, where she worked alongside Ahmad Jaradat for seventeen years.

Several organizations are launching a transnational solidarity network against fascism. In partnership with various groups and organizations, Alternatives presents a series of lectures, discussions, and events that lay the groundwork for a coalition aimed at uniting the public around transnational and intersectional struggles.

As fascism and the far right gain ground around the world, this new context opens up unprecedented opportunities for mobilization, action, and solidarity. Driven by a sense of urgency, organizations and activists from a dozen countries have founded Global Solidarity against Fascism (GSAF). One year later, members of this transnational network will gather for the first time in Montreal to reflect on and build new transnational solidarities against the far right and fascism.
