The underside of the fashion industry: the Tunisian example

Fashion is a booming industry with revenues expected to exceed $600 billion in 2019 and an annual growth rate of nearly 10%. In Canada alone, consumers buy 400% more clothing today than they did 20 years ago, and of that number, 90% was manufactured elsewhere in the world.

At first glance, these figures are remarkable, but a question arises: what impacts and consequences are behind them?

The fashion industry and fast fashion have serious consequences, both from an environmental point of view and in terms of respect for human rights.

To fully understand the seriousness of the situation, it is necessary to illustrate it with the case of Tunisia, where countless violations have been recorded against the textile sector.
