Invitation to a conference-debate on the second round of the presidential elections in Chile organized by Alternatives and GRIPAL (Research Group on Political Imaginaries in Latin America), in collaboration with the OVCD (Observatory of Violence, Criminalization and Democracy) and Centr’ERE (Research Center for Education and Training on the Environment and Eco-citizenship)

On December 19, the second round of presidential elections will decide who will lead Chile between Gabriel Boric, the 35-year-old candidate of the left, who emerged from the student mobilizations in 2011-2012, and José Antonio Kast, the candidate of the far right and supporter of the neo-liberal model inherited from Pinochet. The first round of voting, held on November 21, ended in a tie, with José Kast obtaining 28% and Gabriel Boric 26%. Since then, the mobilization in support of Gabriel Boric has intensified, making a Boric victory possible. Such a result would accompany the advances on the constituent assembly and would not only turn the page on the legacy of Pinochet, but would open a new political period for the country.

Speakers:

Marcela Escribano, Marcelo Solervicens, Camille Demicourt-Fauvel and Ricardo Peñafiel.

The event will take place online and in person at Alternatives’ offices at 3720 Avenue du Parc in Montreal.
