DMTIC (Congo)

Multi-sector Dynamic on Information and Communications Technologies (DMTIC) - Congo

The DMTIC grew out of an Alternatives-organised roundtable in Kinshasa in January 2005 that focused on Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs). DMTIC promotes a concerted approach to Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) between the private sector, the media, civil society, and the government by encouraging TIC development policies and improved national access and involvement.

A second roundtable, this time Pan-African in nature, was organised by Alternatives and the Association for Progressive Communications, and led to the completion of a strategic action plan (plan d’action stratégique). The first step of this plan is the financing of a national study of the Internet infrastructure of the DRC and the social and economic impact of a nation-wide Internet backbone.

The DMTIC and Alternatives help run the Africa ICT Policy Monitor (http://afrique.droits.apc.org) and the RDC-TIC.CD
