The ELA was founded on July 23, 1911, in Bilbao by a group of 178 workers. Today, it has approximately 100,000 members.

The ELA’s values include solidarity, the fight for social change, defending the interests of the working class, and contributing to nation building, among others.

In terms of its organizational structure, it has 12 regional unions and 3 professional federations, as well as an extensive network of offices throughout the Basque Country. Its headquarters are in Bilbao.
