Women and feminism

Description

Together with its members, partners and allies, Alternatives’ vision is to build a world where women and men live in dignity and respect, and equitably share the power and resources necessary to live and thrive.

To achieve human dignity and respect for all, gender equity is crucial. This means that it is not enough to provide equal conditions to women and men, but rather to take into consideration the specific challenges faced by women to ensure that their rights are respected and that they have equitable access to resources and power. It is in this perspective, and drawing on its experience, that Alternatives places equality between women and men at the heart of its approach.

Alternatives’ strong feminist commitment is rooted in respect for the diversity of peoples and individuals. Recognizing the diversity of realities and forms of oppression experienced by women, intersectionality is central to the development of all its programming.

Through this intersectional feminist and anti-colonial vision, Alternatives also recognizes that its offices are located on the unceded traditional Indigenous territory of the Kanien’keha:ka (also known as Mohawks), which has long served as a place of gathering and exchange among nations. In this regard, the organization denounces the violence perpetrated on Indigenous peoples and more specifically on Indigenous women.
